Win😊eries, Distilleries and More

The following links are for those of you who like your adult beverages and other options.

Hilton Head Distillery  We discovered this gem several trips back, as we enjoy visiting wineries and distilleries. Who knew that HHI had such a wonderful secret hiding place off the beaten path, across from a little winery! They have some fine crafted rum, light spirits and, in our humble opinion, awesome whiskeys to choose from. We usually end up bringing back a few bottles to enjoy or give as gifts to like-minded friends. They have nice tastings too.

Across the street is the Island Winery They have barrel aged red wines, crisp white wines and unique Low-country specialty wines. Tastings are available.

Three years ago some folks in HHI decided to do The Ultimate HHI Beach Bar Crawl. Fun to participate in or simply watch!

For some fun outdoor places on or near the beach to hang out, listen to music, eat, drink or play, check these out:

The Low-country Celebration Park opened in December 2020. It is Hilton Head Island's newest park. Situated on a 10-acre site off Pope Avenue near the Coligny Beach parking lot, this amazing park provides active and passive recreational activities, amenities, and scenic views for families and individuals, organizations and community groups. The park is minutes away from the Town's award-winning Coligny Beach Park. While Coligny provides direct access to the beach, the new Low-country Celebration features attractions designed to help park visitors engage in play, discover the Island's environment and be part of cultural festivities.

Fishing

Fishing adventures abound on HHI, and as an avid fly fisherman myself, stalking trout in NC/TN/GA/SC, I have always wanted to try my hand at stalking Red-fish, and was looking for a guide.

I found him. Capt. Mark Nutting of Loco Fly Charters is the guide I'd recommend.  He is experienced, personable and patient, all essential qualities in a fishing guide, especially a fly fishing guide. He'll get you onto fish, you'll have a blast doing it, whether a spinning rig or fly rod. Give him a call or email and tell him I sent you.

Activities: https://hiltonheadislandsc.gov/parks/IslandRec/  Pickle Ball Courts, (clinics and pick up a game most mornings), Gym, Basketball, senior activities, etc.

Golf

One can not come to HHI and not think of golfing, for HHI is all about golf. HHI is home to more than 23 championship golf courses, and all except 4 are available for public play.  We enjoy golfing here, as we love to be on the grounds, the beauty, the flora and fauna, gators too!

We are getting back into the game, so we look for 9 hole options and easier courses to play and have a list of our favorites.

Shipyard Golf Club offers 3ea 9 hole courses, the Brigantine, Clipper and Galleon and we prefer the Galleon.

The Galleon course Designed by George W. Cobb and built in 1970. These original nine holes of Shipyard Golf Club meander through large oaks and tall pines. Accurate placement of approach shots into heavily guarded greens is necessary on the Galleon course.

Dolphin Head Golf Club  is a semi-private golf course located on Hilton Head Island, SC.  Opened in 1974 as Gary Player’s first course in the Hilton Head, the club is nestled on the mouth to the Atlantic Ocean. The layout offers players of all skill levels an exceptional and challenging golf experience.

The heart of Palmetto Dunes  golf beats in the three legend-built courses that surround the golf resort, and while layouts may challenge, the experience always satisfies.

Golf has been part of life on Hilton Head Island since 1962. Today, Hilton Head Island is home to more than 23 championship courses, both public and private, designed by renowned golf architects like Robert Trent Jones Sr., Pete Dye, and Jack Nicklaus. Golfers of all skill levels can enjoy exciting golf experiences including oceanfront courses, traditional parkland courses, and more, all played with a delightful side of Southern hospitality and year-round enjoyable weather. It’s not surprising that Hilton Head Island has been voted the #10 golf destination in the world by Golf Digest readers. In addition to being a fantastic place to play, Hilton Head Island also hosts some of the golf world’s top events.
